Description

This is from the threadcount documented in Jamie Scarlett MBE's 'Tartan the Highland Textile' (1990)

It was formed in 1881 under the Childers Reforms by the amalgamation of the 26th Cameronian Regiment and the 90th Perthshire Light Infantry

but it can be seen in the Cockburn Collection of the same period as the Highland Society of London sample of the Red and Black (#1504)

but the origin is more likely to have come from a combination of the MacDonald and the Mackintosh

The MacColl tartan was produced by Wilson's of Bannockburn in 1797 under the name of 'Bruce'
