The reverse bears the inscription “TERRITORIAL WAR MEDAL” and the dates 1914–19 within a laurel wreath surmounted by a crown

The reverse depicts the bow of a vessel within a laurel wreath and bears the inscription “FOR WAR SERVICE MERCANTILE MARINE 1914–1918”

Recipients are entitled to use the post nominal QVRM.
