Conspicuous Gallantry Medal QV Category_ Miniature Long & Meritorious Service A later die was thenOriginally established in 1855 to reward naval gallantry in the Crimea. The original medals used the MSM with the words Meritorious Service removed and "Conspicuous Gallantry" engraved in their place. Only 11 awards of this type were made and the medal fell into disuse. It was revived for the Ashantee wars of 1874 and a new die was commissioned so the words Conspicuous Gallantry were now raised in the striking. Originally the ribbon was three equal
