the AFM was discontinued and the AFC became available to all ranks of all services for exemplary gallantry in the air not in presence of the enemy
An Officer shall be eligible for the award of the Clasp if 22 or more of the 30 years of his or her service has been in the ranks and provided that the other requirements have again been met

Established in December 1918, the medal was awarded to eligible British and Imperial personnel who served in a recognised theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915.
